Description
Pokémon Legends: Z-A — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
A Legendary Return to Kalos
Pokémon Legends: Z-A marks the next evolution of the Pokémon series by placing you in the heart of Lumiose City — the iconic urban center of the Kalos region. While past entries focused on sprawling regions, Z-A challenges you to live and journey within the city, discovering hidden Wild Zones where wild Pokémon roam, and engaging in high-stakes ranked battles once night falls through the Z-A Royale system.
You’ll begin your adventure at Hotel Z, your base of operations, while working with the mysterious Team MZ and investigating a wave of rogue Mega Evolutions sweeping through the city. By completing activities, catching Pokémon, and winning battles, you’ll climb from Rank Z to Rank A, unlocking deeper story elements, secrets, and power.
Real-Time Battle Gameplay
Unlike traditional Pokémon games, Z-A introduces real-time battle mechanics. You and your partner Pokémon move freely on the field. At any moment, your Pokémon can use moves, dodge, or reposition while the trainer may evade or reposition too. You’ll swap between Pokémon, monitor cooldowns, and think tactically in fast-paced encounters.
Mega Evolutions return, becoming a strategic element. As your bond strengthens and key items align, your Pokémon can temporarily transform into powerful new forms with boosted abilities and effects — sometimes even altering their type or access to new moves. Several Mega Evolutions unlock mid-play depending on seasons and in-game events.
City Exploration & Wild Zones
The entire game takes place within Lumiose City, reimagined with layered districts, alleys, rooftops, underground passages, parks, and hidden zones. Within the urban layout lie Wild Zones—urban jungles where wild Pokémon appear and roam freely, waiting to be encountered or run from.
During daytime, you explore, train, and complete quests. At night, Battle Zones appear: large areas where you enter Z-A Royale matches. You may ambush or be challenged by other Trainers roaming the streets. Victories help you climb ranks, unlock rewards, and access new story arcs.
Lumiose itself undergoes change: redevelopment projects, underground networks, shifting events, and secrets beneath the city all play roles in how the narrative unfolds.
Switch 2 Enhancements & Visuals
While Z-A launches on both original Switch and Switch 2, the Switch 2 Edition features enhanced graphics, sharper textures, smoother frame rates, faster load times, and extra visual polish. Expect cleaner effects, better lighting, and improved performance especially in crowded urban zones and during large-scale battles.
Each edition supports multiplayer and online features like ranked battles, seasonal events, and DLC expansions. DLC content includes Mega Dimension, adding Mythical Pokémon, new Mega Evolutions, and additional missions and zones.
